Overview

'Quitting in Mind' begins with several sections that draw together current knowledge in the area of smoking and mental health (Sections 1.1 to 2.5). It then goes on to discuss evidence and options concerning the provision of stop smoking services to people with mental health problems (Sections 3.1 to 3.5).

The Four-Dimesional Treatment Framework

On the basis of pivotal models of health and health behaviour, and after a review of current evidence, a framework for treatment was established (see figure on right).

The framework incorporates four dimensions of treatment, ensuring that a comprehensive and evidence-based intervention is delivered. Details of each element in the framework can be found in Sections 4.1 to 7.2.

It is hoped that the information in Quitting in Mind will facilitate future commssioning and service provision.

Most importantly, Quitting in Mind is a resource that will keep pace with its subject - with new research or treatment developments being incorporated as soon as they emerge.
