Simon is currently Professor of Psychological Medicine and Health Services Research at the University of York. He directs the Mental Health Research Group in the Department of Health Sciences. Simon is trained as a Psychiatrist and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and has expertise in epidemiology, psychometrics and the analysis of clinical and cost effectiveness.
Simon has recently produced a review of ‘what works’ in helping people with mental health problems quit smoking. he is soon to commence a large-scale trial of smoking cessations services designed for those with severe mental ill health. This will be the largest trial in the UK to date.
